Quarterly Check-In

Hello,

Welcome to another stat filled quarterly check-in. To no one’s surprise I am still slacking on the blogging front. I am hopeful — like always — that this will change as I get back into a routine now I’ve got through the busy period at work and I’m on break from uni at the moment.

I cannot believe we are already a quarter into the year! To celebrate I am bringing the pie charts back! Yay for charts!

These stats look at all the books I’ve read in January, February and March. While I read them in 2023 not all the books have been released in 2023.

Reading Challenges

Goodreads

Goal: 100

Around the World in 52 Books:

Goal: 52

Read: 32

I am happy with how I am progressing with my Around the World in 52 book challenge. I have no idea if I will finish it but I don’t mind If I don’t complete all the challenges. I am a mood reader through and through so I normally try and fit the books I’ve already read to the prompts.

I am doing alright with my Finishing Series challenge. So far I’ve read 7 of the 21 books which has completed 5 series. I am dedicating July to reading only series so fingers crossed I can

To see the listed a prompts and which one’s I’ve crossed off head to my Reading Challenges page.

Star Ratings

I have had a number of 5 star reads this quarter and overall I’ve enjoyed all the books I read. I gave 9 books a 5 stars rating, 9 received 4.5 stars rating, 10 have received 4 stars, 3 have received 3.5 stars and 6 received 3 stars.

The lowest rating I gave this quarter was 3 starts which, personally, I don’t think is a bad rating at all!

My average rating is 4.2 stars.

5 star reads

Here are my 5 star reads from January, Febuary and March!

Genres Read

There isn’t much of a change with my favourite genres in 2023. Romance and Paranormal are my top genres and honestly I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon. I am 100% addicted and it’s really all I want to read.

I’ve introduced a new genre category this year, Mythology. This category will be used for all myth retelling and collections of myth.

To break the genres down, I have read 14 romance books, 13 paranormal, 6 fantasy, 2 mythology, 1 historical fiction and 1 graphic novel.

Target Audience

No surprise here that I am mainly reading books targeted to an adult audience. It makes sense when you look at what the above genre breakdown.

I did get to some middle grade book as I finished reading the Howl’s Moving Castle series. I would like to see some YA titles next quarter as I have a ton of YA fantasy on my shelves that I would love to get to.

I read 2 Middle Grade and 35 Adult titles.

Formate

I have been loving audiobooks. They are fast becoming a staple in my life. They have made tackling some of the more intimidating books on my TBR so much easier. I am still favouring digital books are reigning supreme this quarter. Not a big surprise since I’ve been reading a lot of KU books and trying to read through book of authors who will be attending RARE to see if I wanted to place a pre-order.

Fingers crossed I can make a bigger dent on reading physical books next quarter. This would help me make some progress on my goal to have 80% of the books I read in 2023 are to be books I own.

I read a total of 13 physical books (12 paperbacks and 1 hardbacks) and 19 digital books (18 eBooks, 5 audiobooks and 1 eARCs).

Series or Standalone

I am beyond thrilled with this! Look at all the green! I don’t think I’ve every read this many sequels compared to first series. I would love to see the trend continue but I have my doubts it will.

I read 33 series books (11 first books and 22 sequels) compared to 4 standalones.
