Quarterly Check-In

Hello,

Welcome to another stat filled quarterly check-in. Trying to find a work life balance between work and uni has been almost impossible this quarter. So I have been dragging on the blogging front. I am slowly getting into a better routine so fingers crossed and I can start posting here at least once a week.

I am still reeling that we are already halfway through the year. Like where did the time go? To celebrate I am bringing the pie charts back! Yay for charts!

These stats look at all the books I’ve read in April, May and June. While I read them in 2023 not all the books have been released in 2023.

Reading Challenges

Goodreads

Goal: 100

Read: 78

Around the World in 52 Books:

Goal: 52

Read: 33

I am super happy with how I am progress with my Around the World in 52 book challenge. I think this might be the best I’ve ever tracked with the challenge so am low key very proud of myself. I am a mood reader through and through so I normally try and fit the books I’ve already read to the prompts.

I have stalled with my Finishing Series challenge and haven’t made any additional progress on this list. I am dedicating July to reading only series so fingers crossed I can to more series on this list and more series in general.

Star Ratings

I am still being picky about my 5 star reads this quarter but overall I’ve enjoyed most of the books I read this quarter. I gave 5 books a 5 stars rating, 15 received 4.5 stars rating, 12 have received 4 stars, 7 have received 3.5 stars and 2 have received 3 stars.

Again I haven’t given any book lower than a 3 start which is amazing! This year might have my highest average rating. Guess I am getting better at picking what books will work for me.

My average rating is 4.2 stars.

5 star reads

Here are my 5 star reads from April, May & June!

Genres Read

This year I’ve been putting fantasy romance in the fantasy genre which has spiked the number of fantasy I’m reading. Next year I might reassess and include a fantasy romance as it’s own genre. Romance and Paranormal around out top genres and honestly I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon. These genres are all I want to read.

To break the genres down, I have read 18 romance books, 13 fantasy, 7 paranormal, 2 nonfiction and 1 mythology book.

Target Audience

No surprise here that I am mainly reading books targeted to an adult audience. It makes sense when you look at what the above genre breakdown.

I am a little sad to see that on the 41 books I’ve read this quarter none were middle grade. Fingers crossed I can pick up a few middle grade titles in the next quarter.

I read 3 Young Adult and 38 Adult titles.

Formate

Digital books are reigning supreme was my favoured format this quarter. Not a big surprise since I’ve been reading a lot of KU books and I’ve become addicted to audiobook. They been amazing in letting me read when I’m needing a break from the screen or having a bad pain day.

My guilt for not getting to my physical TBR is still riding at an all time high. My TBR jar is helping to get some of the physical books that have been on my TBR forever but there is also a ton of KU and audio tiles in there so it is a real lucky dip.

I read a total of 11 physical books (10 paperbacks and 1 hardbacks) and 30 digital books (11 eBooks, 16 audiobooks and 3 eARCs).

Series or Standalone

I will always be a series reader. After all this time I don’t think it’s going to change. I will say that I am a little sad to see the number of first books I read this quarter was more than the sequels I’ve read, which means that I am starting more series than I am continuing on with. April was dedicated to reading new to me authors who were attending RARE so I did start a lot of series just to get a taste of their writing style.

Hopefully my plan to only read sequels in July works well. And I might repeat it during another month and aim to do this once a quarter.

I read 30 series books (16 first books and 14 sequels) compared to 11 standalones.
