Hello,
I am a series reader and if you’ve seen any of my quarterly updates you’ll know I’m not always the best at continuing the series I’ve started. This has been a major goal of my over the past few years and I figured I’d share with you an update on how I’m tracking through my series.
I am a bit of a nerd so I do track what I’m reading for the year and how I’m progressing through series in my reading spreadsheet. This post will feature some graphs and charts. I am hoping to provide this updates, probably quarterly so you can see how I’m tracking. Also so I can hold myself accountable.
Ultimately, reading is fun and something I do for enjoyment. I am hoping these posts will motivate me to pick up some series I’ve been reading for a while.
I tend to avoid reading this last book because I don’t want to finish the series and then I end up leaving the final book too long that I don’t remember all the details or I need to reread the series. Yeah can’t really explain the way my brain works πππ Is this just me? Please let me know if you also do this!

Goals
My overall goal is to try and decrease the number of first books of series I’m reading and focus on reading sequels and completing books. Another focus on mine is trying to prioritise my physical TBR so that why I’ve included the Not Started reading status.

Series Stats

These are the reading status that I am currently using to track my series. Most of them are pretty self explanatory but since this if my first post I figured I’ll go through them.
Once I have finished reading a series I will mark it as Complete.
For series that have book that are still being published, I will mark a series as Up to Date when I’ve read the most recent instalment of the series.
Series that I’m not planning on continuing with I will mark as DNF (which stands for did not finish).
For series that I am in the middle of reading I will mark as In Progress.
Any series that I’ve started and have only read the first book is marked as Just Started.
I have update my series tracker to include all the series of book that I own so even through it seems weird I do mark book series that I own and haven’t read yet as Not Started.
Of the 321 series that I am tracking I have:
- Completed 73
- Am Up to Date with 24
- Have DNF 8
- Am progressing through 48
- Have just started 66
- And have not started 120

First Book Verses Sequels

Of the 132 books I’ve currently read this year, 118 of them have been series books. I am beyond thrilled to see that the number of sequels I’ve read is more then the number of series I’ve started!
In 2023 I’ve read 48 First books in series and 70 sequels.

Monthly Series Reading Breakdown

I thought it would be fun to breakdown each month and see how many series I’ve started, continued and finished. After making this graph, it feels less fun πππ
May was clearly my worst month as I started 7 series and made no additional progress of any series I’m reading. On the flip side, July was probably my best month as I finished 5 series and continued on with another 3.
I will 100% be focusing on reading sequels in November.

Series Started in 2023

Of the 47 series I’ve started this year I have:
- Completed 8
- Am Up to Date with 6
- Have DNF 2
- Am progressing through 11
- Have just started 20
For the rest of the year, I would like to not start any more series and make some progress on the 20 series I’ve started this year. Honestly the fact I’ve started 20 new series and haven’t continue on to the subsequent books is wild to me.

Thatβs all for me. Comment down below and let me know if you are a series reader and do you track the series you are reading? If so how do you track them? And are you like me and avoid the reading final books?
Until next time, happy reading
