Quarterly Check In

Hello,

Welcome to another stat filled quarterly check-in. And we are a little delayed mostly because I lost track of time and refuse to believe that we have finished another quarter of the year. Anyone else hoping that time will slow down just a little bit … no? just me.

To celebrate the end of the quarter, I am bringing the pie charts back! Yay for charts!

These stats look at all the books I’ve read in July, August & September. While I read them in 2024 not all the books have been released in 2024.

Star Ratings

I’ve read slightly less books this quarter and I’ve found some amazing reads. I’ve been having a lot of fun this quarter. I gave 12 books a 5 stars rating, 16 received 4.5 stars rating, 7 have received 4 stars, 3 have received 3.5 stars and 1 recieved 2.5 stars.

My lowest rated book was Of Shadows and Darkness by Shayne Leighton which I gave a 2.5 stars. I was so disappointed as this has been on my KU Library for years and was suppose to have Spirited Away and The Labyrinth vibes. While I loved the setting and the fantasy creatures the romance gave me the ick. Our main girl has to choose between the vampire guardian who raised her and who she’s been pining over for ever but has only noticed her when she started to be interested in someone else or a megalomaniac heir to the supernatural throne who wants to eradicate vampires and overrule humans. It was just a no for me.

My average rating is 4.4 stars.

5 star reads

Here are my 5 star reads from July, August & September!

Genres Read

Paranormal as taken top spot this quarter and I think it’s largely due to my growing need to read all the omegaverse books — I think next year I will make omegaverse it’s own genre so I can get a better stat break down. Clearly I was in need of comfort reading as there has been next for 0 branching out. I would like to see more variety in genres next quarter.

To break the genres down, I have read 14 fantasy romance books, 20 paranormal, 4 romance and 1 historical fiction book.

Target Audience

And the sad pie chart continues. Maybe I should stop tracking this since I am clearly not reading outside the adult traget audience. Out of 39 books I read this quarter 39of them were written for and adult audience. It would be nice to see if I can include some YA and/or middle grade next quarter but if I’m not feeling it I won’t push myself.

Formate

I have dropped the ball a little when it came to reading ARCs. I signed up to more then I thought I would get approved for then was getting overwhelmed when I got them all. This has made me more mindful for the rest of the year. I don’t think I will be able to finish this all — at this point I think I’m over 20 behind — so I might include them all in a TBR Jar or spinner wheel and pick a few a month to help me keep on track.

Thank god for audiobooks or else I don’t think I would’ve read as much as I have this quarter. I have a busy period at work which included a lot of planning and training and so audiobooks have been amazing.

I do miss reading physical books. When I have some down time I will try and pick from my shelves or I might try immersive reading where I listen to the audiobook and read the physical book at the same time.

I read a total of 4 physical books (4 paperbacks) and 29 digital books (13 eBooks, 13 audiobooks and 9 eARCs).

Series or Standalone

I am loving that I am continuing to priorities series. I was able to return to reading more sequels then first books in series, which is fantastic. I am going to try my best to ensure that I am reading only sequels and ARCs for the rest of the year so fingers crossed we can

I read 36 series books (16 first books and 20 sequels) compared to 3 standalones.
