“If you ever run again, I’ve got the entire FBI at my disposal, and I will chase you to the ends of the earth.”

I will start by saying that I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank so much Alexis for sending a copy my way!

This is a sequel; I will try and keep my review as spoiler free as possible but just be wary if you haven’t read first book, Killer of Mine.

She’s not just the daughter of a serial killer, she’s the profiler hunting him down.

Two months ago, Freya had a tracking anklet and four, infuriatingly attractive FBI handlers. Now, she has her own badge and is pretty sure she’s in love with all four of her former handlers.

Settled in Quantico, Freya finally feels like she belongs. River no longer sees her as a criminal. Jude and Oz have her back in a way no one ever has before. And Eli… well Eli’s still complicated. Freya and the guys have bigger problems though, because the Cross-Cut Killer is still at large and he is determined to go after the people Freya cares about most.

To make matters worse, Freya receives a message from an unknown number asking about her mother. She knows she should tell the guys, but old habits die hard, and she finds herself keeping secrets once more. As the team look into Freya’s past to try and catch her father, Freya realizes there may be more to her childhood than she thought, and those secrets she’s keeping threaten to ruin everything.

I am obsessed with this series. I wasn’t sure how Secrets of Mine could live up to the magic of Killer of Mine, but I didn’t need to worry. Secrets of Mine well and truly lived up to it. The suspense was perfection, and the twists—THE TWISTS!!–were perfect. Honestly, I am still trying to process exactly what just happened.

Freya has settled into her new job as a profiler of the Special Crimes Unit of the FBI and the team is working hard to hunt down the Cross-Cut Killer. Freya, River, Oz, Jude and Eli are also settling into their new relationship dynamic. Things take a turn for the worse when they realise that the Cross-Cut killer is taunting Freya and her guys by killing in their hometowns. This isn’t exactly how Freya planned to meet Oz and Jude’s family, but she’ll do whatever she can to keep those she loves safe, including wading into repressed memories and trying to find her mother.

Now I need to keep the vague because of spoilers, but I was not expecting the pure chaos that erupted once we solved the problem from Killer of Mine. I have this sinking feeling that things will get worse for Freya, River, Oz, Jude and Eli. What Freya has gone through is harrowing. If anyone deserves a happily ever after, it’s Freya. I cannot wait to see it.

While we have this wild manhunt of a plot, we still get some juicy romance scenes—I’m looking at you, punishment scene. The balance between plot and romance is perfect. I adored the romantic development we get. Things are touch and go with Eli. He’s pulled away and has become distant, which understandably worries Freya, as she thinks he can’t be with her. Thankfully, they do talk out their misunderstanding. Freya and Oz spend a lot of time together as they are in this hometown, staying with Oz’s family, who are amazing. I’m so glad Freya gets to experience what a loving, supportive family is like. Oz gains his confidence in this relationship, which we love to see. Who knew he had such a dirty mouth on him? In a drastic contrast, we see Jude’s family and see him struggle with their contempt for his job and apathy for his wellbeing. I’m so glad Freya could be a safe space for Jude. I was not expecting him to be an artist and use Freya as his canvas to work through and process his feelings of being back home.

Safe to say I love everything about this series. I am dying for the next book because there is no way we can leave the way we did. I need to know what happens next! I’ve said it before—and I’ll say it again—if you are a Criminal Minds girly, you need to read this series. The Criminal Minds vibes are immaculate and we have the added bonus of a why choose romance.
