“We can be the answer to your heat. To your loneliness. To everything.”

I will start by saying that I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own. Thank you so much to Amy for sending a copy my way!

They are my dad’s old packmates… and they hate me.

My dad left Sweden and his pack before I was even born. On his deathbed, I promised never to look for them or attempt to learn what it meant to be an omega.

When the pack comes looking for me, I don’t honor that promise. Alone with no money, I need help. His packmates are my salvation, so I pack my bags and go to Sweden.

I expected a lot of awkwardness on this trip, but everything gets even worse when my heat kicks in and dad’s old friends are the only ones who can help me through it.

Anders, Per and Sven. They are supposed to hate me, but with each passing day, I start to believe they were supposed to love me instead.

Knot in My Plans is the first book I’ve read by Amy Oliveira, and this was a lot of fun. I enjoyed this omegaverse world; it’s unlike any other I’ve read. I haven’t read the other novellas in this series. But don’t worry, you can dive right into this one, like I did, because they are interconnected standalone stories.

There are alphas and omegas in this world, but their numbers are small. They inhabit secluded communities, so these distinctions aren’t widely known. Isadora lives in Brazil. She’s struggling in the aftermath of her father’s death. The bills are piling up, and she’s barely surviving paycheck to paycheck. In the last days of her father’s life, he told her about alphas and omegas. He also made her promise that she would never go back to his hometown in Sweden. Isadora dismisses it as ravings from one who is dying. However, when her father’s old friend, Anders, calls asking if she will take a test to see if she’s an omega, Isadora realises that there might be something more to the secrets her father hid from her. She refuses at first until Andres offers to pay her enough to cover her debts, which would allow her to keep her childhood home. So, against her father’s deathbed promise, she flies to Sweden to find out if she’s an omega and meet her father’s ex-pack. In quick succession, she discovers she’s an omega as she goes into heat once she finds her pack. Her pack, which is the same one her father left 25 years earlier.

Isadora is a plus-size character, which I always love to see in my books. Isadora is headstrong. Determined to get her money and leave. She has no connection to this community, so the hope her omega status brings to this community means little to her. She’s lost both her parents and is lonely. It was wonderful to see Isadora find a family with Anders, Per and Sven. She’s finally stopped living in survival mode and gets to enjoy her life.

Anders, Per and Sven are still dealing with the betrayal of Isadora’s father. While they logically understand that he left to travel and find love, they are still hurting. They don’t really talk about it. On top of this, Sven has been keeping a secret, which complicates things.

The romance here has some rocky moments. We have an age gap, and there is some animosity between them. Per is the sweetest and the first to grasp that she is their omega, especially when her heat hits. The heat scene was hot and heavy, including all the fun things you’d expect from a why choose omegaverse.

Ultimately, I wish this were longer. This might be me being greedy, given my enjoyment of the story and characters. I believe the romance had too little time to build from their distrust to adoration, which makes it feel rushed. Beyond romance, the characters are dealing with a lot. Anders, Per and Sven are still dealing with the betrayal of Isadora’s dad leaving their pack, and Isadora is new to this world. She doesn’t know what alphas and omegas are and distrusts them based on what her dad has told them. I think if the story were extended, we could explore the wonderful complexities of their dynamic.

I enjoyed that we got a cameo from a pack from an earlier book. Julia is one of the other lost omegas. She answered Isadora’s questions, which helped Isadora get a better understanding of what it means to be an omega.

I love the diversity we have here, from plus-size rep, different cultures and different queer identities. It makes me excited to read more of Oliveira’s other works.

I enjoyed the omegaverse universe Oliveira has built. I am excited to read the first two novellas. If you like a sweet omegaverse, I think you would enjoy Knot in my Plans. Also, if you are interested in trying omegaverse for the first time, I think this novella is a great starting point. You can learn all about omegaverse with Isadora, who is also new to this world.
