“As long as we have two feet and a heartbeat, she’ll be right.”

I will start by saying that I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank so much Lana  for sending a copy my way!

This is a sequel; I will try and keep my review as spoiler free as possible but just be wary if you haven’t read the rest of the series.

There’s a reason crows circle overhead nightly. It’s to remind themselves of where they’ve been, where they’re going, and, most importantly, who they’re with—who is friend, and who is foe.

Guardian River spent years cataloging every detail of how his best friend accidentally electrocuted his wings, leaving him scarred, flightless, and furious. The healers say his molting is psychological. That he needs to “forgive and forget” to heal. Crows don’t forget. And River won’t forgive. Nothing—not injury, not duty, not friendship—will stop him from delivering justice.

But then Blake Hartley turns up and everything changes. She’s a glittery, stubborn, married human from the past with a knack for fixing broken things and a smile that makes his feathers twitch. She’s not supposed to matter. She’s not supposed to get him.

When their bond snaps into place, he becomes desperate to deny the one thing he swore love. Crow shifters don’t mate like other Fae. When they fall, they fixate. Obsession ruined his best friend, and now he can’t breathe without Blake’s emotions bleeding through their connection. She’s optimistic when he’s drowning in vengeance. She believes in second chances when he knows some betrayals can’t be forgiven. She believes broken things can be fixed.

The problem is, River is starting to believe her. He’s starting to forget, to forgive, which is dangerous now that secrets are surfacing. Ones that threaten to rewrite everything the Fae Guardians thought they knew about their foes, their friends … even the ones they loved and lost.

And at the center of it all?
Cloud.
River’s best friend.
And perhaps … the villain they never saw circling.

After nine books of secrets, the Company of Vengeful Crows is finally gathering. This isn’t just a love story. It’s the spark that ignites the beginning of the end.

Obsessed isn’t strong enough word for how I feel. The Company of Vengeful Crows had me in a chokehold to the point that I read this 600+ page novel within 24 hours. I just couldn’t put it down. This might just be my favourite in the whole Fae Guardians series.

This instalment is set a few years after A War of Ruin and Reckoning, with Guardian River still reeling from betrayal. Scarred and grounded after being accidentally electrocuted by his best friend, Cloud, River can’t fly—and no healer can fix it. Suspected to be a psychological block, River buries himself in Guardian duties, consumed by the need for justice or, more accurately, revenge. River and his fellow Guardian, Ash, are summoned to the Great Murder—an annual crow gathering to trade, tell stories, and celebrate milestones—but they’re reluctant to attend. Despite this, they depart, following the Prime’s order, to locate a powerful item for the war against Nero. For River, it’s also a chance to finally confront Cloud. River is hyper-focused on this goal—until Blake Hartley crashes into his life. A glittery, stubborn, old worlder from Australia and a former DIY influencer, Blake is everything River doesn’t want: his mate. When their bond snaps into place, River knows he’s in trouble. Crow shifters don’t love like the other fae—they fixate. And after watching obsession destroy Cloud, River wants no part of that fate. Blake believes in second chances and has a knack for breathing life into broken things. And River starts to believe he can be fixed. As their connection deepens, River questions whether vengeance is worth it. Old secrets rise, threatening the bond he shares with Ash and Cloud. Could those secrets reshape everything they previously understood regarding one another and their enemy?

River, Ash and Cloud have been lurking in the series’ background. I’ve been intrigued by them from the start, especially Cloud, so I was thrilled that we are finally getting their books. The three were close—keeping slightly separate from the other guardians—until Cloud’s vendetta. In the wake of his vendetta, River is now flightless. Which, as a winged fae, is heartbreaking for River. Sprinkled throughout, we get flashbacks of their friendship, which I adore. It honestly made it more heartbreaking to see how their friendship had twisted. River is the playful joker of the group. He’s the first person to jump into action and doesn’t think much about the consequences. River uses humour to deflect, not wanting people to get too close or for things to change. Blake helps him realise just how important it is to listen and be vulnerable to those you love. He also recognises that love doesn’t weaken you but can be a source of strength. The scene where River and Cloud finally confront each other was beautiful. 100% it was a conversation that’s been brewing for over a year.

I loved, loved, loved getting to learn about the Crow shifters. They are a semi-nomadic group of fae that travel Elyphme. They are known for collecting shiny treasure and will often steal what they want. The crows have a slight mafia vibe, which is so fun. I especially love how River’s family—thrilled that he’s found his mate—lock River and Blake in a caravan to complete the nesting ritual.

I adored Blake. She is loud, bright and endlessly optimistic. I loved her Australian slang and how it confuses everyone. Underneath all her glitter and sunshine, she is a girl who’s desperate to be loved with no conditions. Her dirtbag ex-husband dumps her at the end of the world, saying that she’s cheap and has no substance. I just wanted to hug her. She’s an influencer who did DIY projects where she gave life to broken items. Blake wants to be helpful and is trying her hardest to find out what her magic ability is. All the other old-worlders have a connection to the well and have helped aid the Guardian’s war against Nero. I was not expecting what her ability was, and I loved it!

River and Blake are perfect for each other. I loved every second of their romance. River has seen most of the guardians find their mates and seen Cloud get harmed and lost in his obsession, so he wants nothing to do with love. He’s instantly captivated by Blake and—despite his hesitation—he constantly shows how he cares. From taking care of Blake when she’s sick to reassuring her that she is worth it and doesn’t need to change anything because she’s already perfect. He helps her deconstruct the negative image her ex-husband has fed her for over a decade, and I love it. Honestly, River had me swooning all over the place. He’s hands down my favourite hero in the Fae Guardian series. My heart broke when River kept putting off telling Blake how he felt because he wanted to clean up his mess with Cloud and wanted to be worthy of her, even though Blake doesn’t care about that. After her disastrous marriage, she needs someone who can communicate and who is equally invested in their relationship as she is. Things go sideways when Blake gets sick. Thankfully, we have our HEA. It was perfection!

Oh my god! These crows keep their secrets close to their chests. THE TWISTS. Cloud and —most importantly—Ash’s secrets? I’m still reeling. I have so many questions! How will this macro plot involving Nero conclude? Because I have no idea, but I’m ready for it! I need their books stat!

Safe to say, I adored every second of The Company of Vengeful Crows. I am currently in a bit of a book hangover because of it. To tide me over, I might do a reread and start at book one. If you love a fantasy romance that has a post-apocalyptic world with Witcher vibes and fated mates romance, this series is an absolute must.
