“May your fates be tangled together forever.”

I will start by saying that I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own. Thank you so much to Kate for sending a copy my way!

This is a sequel; I will try and keep my review as spoiler free as possible but just be wary if you haven’t read A Thorn in Every Heart & A Storm in Every Heart as this novella takes place after the events in those two books.

It’s been two years since Alix Knight first fell into the fae realm, and now she and Daemon—her bodyguard-turned-king—are finally getting their happily ever after.

With their wedding set for Christmas day, Alix is excited to share her joy with the entire kingdom. Yet, nothing in Ellender is ever simple. According to old fae tradition, the new king and queen are required to grant any request during the week before their wedding, no matter how impossible. Alix and Daemon will need a Christmas miracle, and help from all their friends to play politics with neighboring kingdoms, find, two missing children, manage Alix’s pushy human family, and fulfill every wish, before they can finally make it down the aisle.

I loved the Christmas vibes of this adorable holiday fantasy romance novella. Until I read A Holiday in Every Heart, I didn’t know how much I needed a romantasy holiday romance. I adored being back in this world and seeing more of Alix and Daemon’s happily ever after.

This novella takes place after the first two books in this series, and you definitely need to read them before picking this one up. We are following Alix and Daemon in the lead-up to their wedding. On top of all the other mammoth wedding preparations, Daemon and Alix, as the new King and Queen, need to grant 1000 wishes in the week before their ceremony. These wishes or requests can be as small, big or seemingly impossible, and they must complete them all. With a few wishes remaining, they are asked to locate two missing children reportedly taken by the Yuletide Witch, who’s a monster from old fae stories. The Witch is said to awaken only during the winter solstice, and she steals children to sate her hunger during hibernation.

There are some seriously funny moments in here. From Alix trying to teach fae human practices like honeymoons—which Daemon is dying to adopt and tells everyone it’s an important ritual because he wants to spend some uninterrupted alone time—to the lies Alix tells her mother to keep the fae world secret. It was wonderful to see Alix and her mother mend their relationship and find common ground to remain in each other’s lives.

I love the way Kate King can weave traditional fairy tales into her fae world. This story features a Hansel and Gretel-type plot, which blends into this tale of the Yuletide Queen. She does a fantastic job of using fairy tales and seamlessly fits them into the world she’s created.

A Holiday in Every Heart is a warm holiday hug with all the magic of this fairytale world. It’s the perfect little treat to tide us over until the next book. We get a little look at the couple who will be the focus of the next book, A Hunger in Every Heart. And I am so excited! The next book is a Little Red Hood meets Rapunzel. I can’t wait for Kate’s take on these tales. If you love a little fairytale magic in your fantasy romance, this is the series for you.
