What book do you associate most with your high school experience? Your college experience?

For high school the most I most associate with that experience was Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. This was the first book we study in English that I didn’t have to force myself to read. I also adore the discussions this book raises in relation to how people cope with fear and tragedy. Also is a historical fiction that’s set in the 1666 during the plague.  If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it!
For university there are two books I associate with that experience. In between my BA and my current degree did a online literature unit for one semester and really enjoyed it. It also opened my eyes up to a whole world of stories, poems and novels I wasn’t aware of. One of the full length works we had to read was Ransom by David Malouf and … wow this man knows how to write. Again it’s a historical fiction this time set in antiquity during the Trojan War. This stunning book explores book 24 of Homer’s The Iliad after Hector is killed by Achilles and King Priam requests his son’s body back. This destroy me. Also introduced me to an Australian Author.

Are there any other books that mark milestones in your life?

Dragonkeeper by Carole Wilkinson: I first picked up this series in grade 6 so I would’ve been 10 or 11. I adored the series and it really help kick start my love of books. This series feature Ping, a resilient young girl, travelling across China with wise and ancient dragon, Long Danzi and a precious dragon stone.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: No surprise this one is here. I was 14 I think when I picked up this book and become obsessed. This book was my gateway drug to  young adult fiction and to fandoms.

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory: I think I first picked up these books a 4 or 5 years ago. I had just watched the mini series and feel head over heads for The Wars of the Roses and The Plantagenet dynasty. Also my gateway book into historical fiction.
