Hello,
This year marks the third year of O.W.L.s readathon which is hosted on BookTube by G from Book Roast. It’s a month long Harry Potter themed readathon where each for each book you read, you pass one of your O.W.L exams. To pass the readathon, you will have to get your OWL in 2 subjects. This will get you at the Acceptable level. Six books will get you an Exceeded Expectations, where 9 will get you an Outstanding.
The Wizarding Careers you chose will determine which O.W.L.s you need to pass and in which subjects. This year, G has added some new Careers. These include Care of Magical Children, Culinary Sorcerer, Mage of Visual Arts, Trader of Magical Tomes to name a few.
This is a month long readathon — from 1st April to 30th April — so plenty of time to pass the exams you need for your required career. More information about the readathon can be found on Magical Reathaton website.
I am jumping into this super last minute but I’m so excited for this challenge!
Wizarding Career
Okay, picking a career was a lot harder than I originally thought. I was very very close to picking Trader of Magical Tomes because being a magical book seller sounds all kind of wonderful buuuuut I wanted to give myself a bit of a challenge. The career I will work towards is Hogwarts Professor. The subject I would want to teach is History of Magic.
Hogwarts Professor TBR

Hogwarts Professor is one of the more obvious career in the wizarding world. As a teacher at Hogwarts is a very prestigious which comes with many added perks for your research and travel prospects.
This is an occupation for those would like to prefect a chosen magical discipline to the highest extent and wish to bestow their wisdom of the younger generation of wizard and witches.
Whilst there is not always a first-time teaching position available they do have a backlist which we call upon if the current teacher falls foul of a nasty student prank or some magical epidemic Madame Pomrey has not yet found the cure for yet.
Getting paid to research and also to travel? Where do I sign? For this career the I need to pass 7 O.W.L.s, two of which must be History of Magic and Defence Against the Dark Arts.
The books I’ll be reading are:
History of Magic | Witch Hunts: Book featuring witches
It seems like everyone has been loving this book. Honestly I feel like I need to know what’s happening and know what I’m missing out on. Also I’m morbidly fascinated with witch trails what took place in the Stuart era so I’m excited to see how this story unfolds.
This is a new adult fantasy romance which follows witch, Louise le Blanc and witch hunter Reid Diggory. We have an enemies to lovers trope along side a marriage of connivence, both of which I love.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lousie’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
Lousie has fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like her are hunted and burned at the stake. The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
Defence Against the Dark Arts | Grindylows: Book set at sea
I’ve been in the mood for some YA fantasy and These Rebel Waves sounds so good! We follow three characters — Lu, Vex and Ben — as they navigate tense political climates. Through out this they need decided who they are what just what they are willing to become for the sake of peace.
Lu is a soldier who’s helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. When an Argridian delegate vanishes during peace talks with Grace Loray, Argrid demands brutal justice—but Lu suspects something more dangerous is at work.
Vex is a pirate who pirates the island’s magic plants and sells them on the black market. But after Argrid accuses raiders of the diplomat’s abduction, Vex becomes a target.
Ben is the crown prince of Argrid, he harbours a secret obsession with Grace Loray’s forbidden magic. When Ben’s father, the king, gives him the shocking task of reversing Argrid’s fear of magic, Ben has to decide if one prince can change a devout country.
I’m excited to see how these three story lines will come together. Also,I love a pirate book! These Rebel Waves has been on my shelves since it came out and I cannot wait to get to it.
Arithmancy | Magical qualities of the number 2 – balance/opposite: Read something outside your favourtie genre
I honestly don’t know too much about this book apart from the fact that Bae Crate recommended it. It’s a romantic suspenses which isn’t something I’ve read before but they mentioned it was like a romance set in Criminal Minds which is one of my favourite TV shows so I had to buy it!
I don’t read of lot of books with crime in it which is odd giving my love of crime TV shows. So hopefully I enjoy this one and if I do there are more books to this series.
We follow new CSI agent, Zoey Wright and her childhood crush, Former Army Ranger Knox Steele as they hunt for the serial killer who’s preying on the women of their hometown.
Divination| Third Eye: Use a random number generator to pick your book
I picked this book up years ago when I was working at a discount book store. I love books set in the New York during the early 20th century and so brought this one.
I don’t know much about book apart from that if follows the everyday life of Brooklyn girl Marie.
I don’t tend to pick up the literary fictions books I have on my shelves all too often — its a genre I have to been in the head space for. But thank you to this prompt and the random number generator. I can finally stop putting this book off and actually get around to reading it because it sound beautiful.
Transfiguration | Animagus lecture: Book which includes shapeshifting
I love that we have a prompt that is read a shifter book because these are my all time favourite type of paranormal books. I was always going to choose this one.
For this one I am going to pick up the next book in The Phoenix Pack series. I’m excited to get to this one because the couple in this book, Shaya and Nick, have been hinted at since the very first book. I need to know what happens!
Shaya and Nick are mates but Nick refused to claim her because she submissive and an Alpha need an Alpha mate. While he won’t accept her as his mate, he is committed to interfering in her life. While Shaya may hold a submissive role in her pack, but she’s done taking orders. She ran away. Now she hides from him, posing as a human in a town full of anti-shifter extremist groups. She thinks he’ll never find her again, and that suits her just fine.
Honestly this just sounds amazing and I can feel the angst coming on. I need to ready this. I am ready!
Herbology | Mimbulus mimbletonia: Title that starts with M
One of my goals for the year is to try and finish series and Medea is the final book I need to get to in Kerry Greenwood’s Delphic Woman series.
This a myth retelling and follows Medea from the tale of the Argonauts. Princess Medea of Colchis is a priestess of Hecate. She is the custodian of the wood in which the Golden Fleece is hung. And then Jason and his Argonauts come along, and she falls catastrophically in love. She helps him steal the Fleece and sails with him to claim his throne. And that’s when things go wrong.
Medea isn’t painted in the best light — if you’re familiar with the myth you know what I’m talking about — so I’m interested to the story told from her point of view.
Muggle Studies | Book from the perspective of muggles: a contemporary
I do not know why I haven’t read this yet but I need to! Especially since I was lucky enough to receive an ARC.
I finished the first two books — Cherish Hard and Rebel Hard — over the last few weeks and am dying to get to this one.
The story follows star rugby player and single father, Jacob Esera and bad-girl Juliet Nelisi’s romance. Jacob has worked hard to create a joyous life for his six-year-old daughter. All Jake wants is safety and stability. He does not need the scandal and drama Juliet is know for. Juliet is equally not interested in Jacob. She has kicked a cheating sports-star ex to the curb, she has a prestigious job and loyal friends and wants nothing to do with sportsmen.
This sounds all kinds of wonderful. I love love love Nalini Singh she would have to be one of my all time favourite writes. Also I love that this series is set in New Zealand.
For the full synopsis of each of these book click on the image it will take you to the related goodreads page!
That’s all for me. Comment down below and let me know if you’re taken part in the O.W.L.s and which magical career you would choose.
Until next time, happy reading!
