Hello!
Today I thought I join in Waiting on Wednesday. Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme that originally created by Jill at Breaking the Spine but has since been adapted with Can’t Wait Wednesday by Teresa at Wishful Endings.
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature that showcases upcoming release that we are dying to get to!
Lobizona by Romina Garber
Published by: Wednesday Books
Publication date: 04 August 2020
Summary
Some people ARE illegal.
Lobizonas do NOT exist.
Both of these statements are false.
Manuela Azul has been crammed into an existence that feels too small for her. As an undocumented immigrant who’s on the run from her father’s Argentine crime-family, Manu is confined to a small apartment and a small life in Miami, Florida.
Until Manu’s protective bubble is shattered.
Her surrogate grandmother is attacked, lifelong lies are exposed, and her mother is arrested by ICE. Without a home, without answers, and finally without shackles, Manu investigates the only clue she has about her past–a mysterious “Z” emblem—which leads her to a secret world buried within our own. A world connected to her dead father and his criminal past. A world straight out of Argentine folklore, where the seventh consecutive daughter is born a bruja and the seventh consecutive son is a lobizón, a werewolf. A world where her unusual eyes allow her to belong.
As Manu uncovers her own story and traces her real heritage all the way back to a cursed city in Argentina, she learns it’s not just her U.S. residency that’s illegal. . . .it’s her entire existence.
Why I can’t wait to read this
This book sounds like it explores an important issue surrounding immigration from South America to America. This isn’t a topic that I have knowledge or experience with. I’m interested to learn more and sometimes a best way to learn is through fiction.
I love that this tales in interwoven with folklore! Exploring folklore is one of my all time favourite things to do. I am not familiar with Argentine folklore but this book sounds like the best place to start.
Also we have a mention of a werewolf which is exciting because they are my favourite paranormal creatures. I’m interested to see what differences these werewolves have with the inclusion of Argentine folklore.
I am very lucky to have scored an ARC and a spot on the blog tour. Thank you so much to Meghan Harrington and the team over a Wednesday Books are sending a copy my way!
That’s it for me. Comment down below and let me know which books release date you cannot wait for.
Until next time, happy reading!
