Hello,
This year marks the third year of the N.E.W.T.s readathon which is hosted on BookTube by G from Book Roast. It’s a month long Harry Potter themed readathon where each for each book you read, will go towards your N.E.W.T exams. This is a continuation of the O.W.L.s readathon which happened in April.
This will be the last of the N.E.W.T.s. Given the near constant derogatory comments J.K Rowling has made towards the trans community G has decided that she will no longer continue with the O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s. I commend G’s decision as the comments made were horrible and honestly not things I believe should be said. It’s 2020 you would think and hope that as a society we would’ve reach an overall point of acceptance for all minority groups and it pains me to see that this is not the case.
At this stage it looks like G is planning for the magical readathon will be back in 2021 but with a new magical universe that she’s created. I have no doubt that it will be amazing. G is a seriously creative person—you just have to look at the career guides she created to know that—so I’m exciting to see what will happen.
Unlike with the O.W.L.s were you are only required to complete one book per subject, in the N.E.W.Ts you may be required to read multiple books per subject to prove your skill. Each subject in the N.E.W.Ts will contain three prompts, each for a specified grade. The grades are Acceptable (A), Exceeded Expectations (E) and Outstanding (O).
The Wizarding Career you chose will determine which O.W.L.s you need to pass and in which subjects. This year, G has added some new Careers. These include Care of Magical Children, Culinary Sorcerer, Mage of Visual Arts, Trader of Magical Tomes to name a few. The career you chose will determine which subjects and grade you need to pass the N.E.W.T.s.
More information about the readathon can be found on Magical Reathaton website.
Because of the relaxed nature of this year’s N.E.W.T.s and that there is no actual hosting of the event, I’ve decided to do this over two months for two reasons:
One; I have picked a number of chunky books and don’t want to stress myself out
Two; I have surgery this month and have recently gone back to work so I’m still trying to get back into the swing of things.

Wizarding Career
Looking at the O.W.L.s subjects I complete in April, I am still going to stick with the career I had originally chosen, which was Hogwarts Professor. I chose this mostly because I would one of my dream jobs — you can never has just one! — is to be a university lecturer. The subject I would teach at Hogwarts would be History of Magic.

Hogwarts Professor TBR

Hogwarts Professor is one of the more obvious career in the wizarding world. As a teacher at Hogwarts is a very prestigious which comes with many added perks for your research and travel prospects.
This is an occupation for those would like to prefect a chosen magical discipline to the highest extent and wish to bestow their wisdom of the younger generation of wizard and witches.
Whilst there is not always a first-time teaching position available they do have a backlist which we call upon if the current teacher falls foul of a nasty student prank or some magical epidemic Madame Pomrey has not yet found the cure for yet.
Getting paid to research and also to travel? Where do I sign? For this career the I need to pass 7 N.E.W.T.s. I need a O in History of Magic, E in Defence Against the Dark Arts and an A in two other subjects.
I have added a few extra N.E.W.T.s prompts because I have been reading around 10 books per month and for Professor I would only need to read 7.
The books I’ll be reading are:

A – Salamander | Fire on cover or in the title: Firelight (Darkest London #1) by Kristen Callihan

A – Boggart | read a horror or thriller: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
E – Kappas: water demon! Book with a demon or water theme: The Gloaming by Kristy Logan

A – Take the red cup, dear | book with a red cover: Where Dreams Descend (Kingdom of Cards #1) by Janella Angeles

A – Read a Historical Fiction: The Blue Rose by Kate Forsyth
E – Book with a mainly black cover: Let’s Get Textual (Texting #1) by Teagan Hunter
O – Book recommended by someone older than you: When Christ and his Saints Slept (Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine #1) by Sharon Kay Penman

A – Ingredient: Flying Seahorse | Sky on cover or in title : Beach Read by Emily Henry

A – Lapifors Spell | Animal on cover or in title : Lords of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul #1) by C.L. Wilson
E – Draconifors Spell | Book with dragons or fire : Winterhued by E.H. Alger

That’s all for me. Comment down below and let me know if you’re taken part in the N.E.W.T.s and which magical career you would choose.
Until next time, happy reading!
