“Better the devil you know…”
I will start by saying that I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank so much Meg and Kim for sending a copy my way!
This is a sequel; I will try and keep my review as spoiler free as possible but just be wary if you haven’t read first three books, Sin, Chaos, Malice & Grim.
Everyone deserves a second chance …
Committing a crime will land you a one-way ticket into the Redemption Program, where you will need to earn your freedom by completing Acts of Kindness. Fail this, and the punishment is death.
Ethan has just committed a serious crime. He prefers to speak with actions, not words, and his temper is what landed him in the Program.
Isaac is the personification of the sun; warm, positive, and willing to do anything to help others.
When Isaac is assigned to be Ethan’s Redeemer, a person entrusted with helping others to complete the Program, Ethan is less than impressed. It doesn’t take long for Isaac’s constant cheer and positivity to grate on Ethan’s nerves. But the more they get to know each other, the more Ethan slowly begins to lower his walls, and feels his defences come crashing down.
But what they don’t realise is that someone desperately doesn’t want Ethan to succeed in his Program, and they will stop at nothing to see him fail.
You guys! It’s the end of an era. I’m unwell. The slump this book put me in was no joke! I bow down to the majesty that is my queens K. Loraine and Meg Anne. Lucifer was the perfect ending for Merri, her guys & the apocalypse.
Since this is the final book in the final series, I will keep everything super vague there won’t be any spoilers here. The plot gets turned up to 11. I loved how all the other characters from the previous series come together and we still get time for Merri to get to know her most controversial mate.
Like with Grim, we get a number of POVs from characters from the previous series. The way the plot unfolded with call backs to the earlier books was perfection!
While the plot had me on the edge of my seat don’t you worry Lucifer is sprinkled with the typical banter and toe-curling steam that’s a signature of this series. I mean would you expect any less with a succubus as our FMC?
Let’s take a moment for the insanely talented narrators who brought this world to life. Audio is by far my favourite way to consume this series. Let’s give a round of applause to Stella Hunter, Shane East, J.F. Harding, Jason Clarke, James Joseph, Aaron Shedlock & Teddy Hamilton, whose talent has created an amazing immersive reading experience.
This is a bittersweet ending. I am equal parts thrilled and sad that this series has come out an end because I’m not ready to leave this world yet. I don’t know how to put into works just how much this series has formed part of my DNA. To fill the void, I am going to back to the start for a reread.
This is my perfect brand of paranormal romance. If you love your paranormal romance on the wild side, I implore you, pick up The Mate Games. Lucky for you, all the books are out now, so you can binge-read to your heart’s content because you’re gonna need it, especially with those killer cliffhanger endings.
